Fall Activities

Fall is a great time to have fun in Cornwall & the Seaway Valley, and enjoy the best that the land has to offer. The famous MacIntosh Apple was actually created in the Seaway Valley and is the featured apple in all of our apple orchards.  There are many kinds to choose from, but we feel the Mac is the best!  This is the season for apples, pick your own right from the trees, or purchase a basket already picked.  Then there are all of the apple treats - pies, cider, tarts, jellies and jams, the list goes on!  Whether you are coming from the east, west, north or south there is an orchard that is easily accessible:

  • Smyths Orchard - 11652 Dundela Rd, Iroquois (West of Cornwall)
  • Mountain Orchards - 10175 Clark Road, Mountain (Northwest of Cornwall)
  • Dentz Orchards & Berry Farm - 4766 County Rd #16 in Iroquois (West of Cornwall)
  • Marlins Orchard & Garden Centre  - County Road #2 in Summerstown (East of Cornwall)
  • Cannamore Orchard - 1480 County Rd #32 in Morewood (Northeast of Cornwall)
  • Avonmore Berry Farm - 16365 4th Rd, Avonmore (Northwest of Cornwall)

The fall brings with it many country adventures like corn mazes, door mazes, wagon rides, apple picking, pumpkins, and farm fresh produce.  "Farm Fresh" is a program featuring foods and items produced right here in the Seaway Valley - everything from corn and apples, to honey, maple syrup, potatoes and pumpkins.  Visit one of our Farm Fresh locations - we guarantee you won't leave empty handed!

The Haunting Season is celebrated at both Cannamore Orchard and McMaze.  Cannamore Orchard is the home of the Spooky Wagon Ride which features a horse drawn wagon ride through the orchard and woods narrated by the Cannamore Witch and featuring haunted experiences.  Rides for the brave run after dark but for the younger generation there are weekend afternoon rides as well!  Admission also includes the House of Terror, Kid's Spooky House, Fog Maze and Spooky Village.

McMaze gets into the haunted groove with their haunted corn maze, horse drawn wagon rides, haunted bush walk, haunted barn and pick your own pumpkins.  In December McMaze will celebrate Christmas with their meet Santa in the Enchanted Forest event

There are special events at Upper Canada Village.  The weekend of September 26th and 27th features the Annual Quilt Show.  Quilts will be on display, quiliting supplies for sale, special presentations by quilting experts and more!  Then from Sept 30th to Oct 4th is the Fall On The Farm celebration.  Upper Canada Village interpreters will be celebrating the fall harvest and beginning the preparations for winter in an 1860's village.  The village is open until October 11th and of course the Village Store will be open featuring the village fresh baked bread and cheese!  Upper Canada Village will then transform into a winter wonderland for all to enjoy as the ever popular "Alight At Night" festival kicks off from November 28th to January 3rd.  Enjoy the village lit up with over a quarter million lights, outdoor skating, old fashioned horse drawn wagon rides, and the Toy Train.  Don't forget, the Village store will be open for great Christmas shopping.

If professional live theatre is your thing, you can enjoy the final comedy of the season at Upper Canada Playhouse - "Maggie's Getting Married" (by Norm Foster) will be staged until Oct 4th.  The next production at the Playhouse will be the family Christmas show "The Christmas Express" from November 19th to December 13th, 2009.

Shopping even takes on a fall flair - the Country Harvest Pottery Show & Sale at Marlins Orchards takes place on Thanksgiving Weekend Oct 10th to 12th - handmade pottery demonstrations and unique and one of a kind pieces will be on sale. The Heritage Valley Arts & Crafts Show & Sale is scheduled for Oct 31st to Nov 1st at the Cornwall Civic Complex.  Over 100 area artists and artisans will display their talent and crafts for the weekend.

Fore !  Of course there is still plenty of time for golf!  The Seaway Valley boasts 11 courses varying from 9 hole par 3 courses to an 18 hole championship course and a 36 hole course.  Wide open links style or waterfront - the choice is endless!

Cycling is awesome in the fall, and our waterfront recreational path features wide open areas with great vistas of the St. Lawrence River, city sections, sections through the Bird Sanctuary and beautiful conservation area paths.  With over 90 kms to choose from there will certainly be something to your liking.

Take an afternoon or the entire weekend and enjoy the fall weather, scenery and activities.
